A Man Dies in me

A Poem By Zhawen Shali

Translated by: S J Fowler

less cold now, as his limbs
shrink, his icicle fingers
slacken their grip, heat
returns to my body.
A woman passed, blue lipped
Brr, shivers.
But in this dawn I don’t need a coat
his power to freeze
weakening,
my steps,
grow firmer.
I glow brighter and brighter.
it wasn’t a man of rock who was lodged in my heart,
but only a man of ice
who’s melted in my heart.
